Alaska
Since 2006 I have been visiting a different place in Alaska each year, and hope to continue doing so.
2006: Wrangel/St Elias NP, Seward, and Valdez
2007: Homer and Kachemak Bay State Park
Aasgard Pass has quite a reputation. From Colchuck Lake, a rough route ascends 2200 feet in a mile or maybe even less. First you have to go around the lake, which requires crossing a number of boulder fields. Then it is up, up, and up. We had cloudy and cool weather for the climb - the only clouds of the trip, as it turned out.

Surrounded by sharp spires
Claudio and Gordon work their way up
The route goes sharply left here, avoiding the snow
The mountain goats would be our frequent companions

Nearing the top
And finally, after a long climb, a greeting at the very top
Back to Colchuck Lake or on to The Upper Enchantment Basin
