Alaska
Since 2006 I have been visiting a different place in Alaska each year, and hope to continue doing so.
2006: Wrangel/St Elias NP, Seward, and Valdez
2007: Homer and Kachemak Bay State Park
The Pacific Northwest is full of volcanoes, and so it is full of old lava flows. The lava beds here are next to a short part of the Pacific Crest Trail that is in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, just south of the Indian Heaven Wilderness. It is an easy and level hike to get to this area.
