Alaska
Since 2006 I have been visiting a different place in Alaska each year, and hope to continue doing so.
2006: Wrangel/St Elias NP, Seward, and Valdez
2007: Homer and Kachemak Bay State Park
Rumeli Hisari is a castle built by Sultan Mehmet II in preparation for his final and successful siege of Constantinople in 1532. It was famously built in just four months. And then when Constantinople was defeated quickly, was never needed militarily again. It is some miles up the Bosphorus, and I visited it after some walking through town and a bus ride. It is right next to the modern Bosphorus Bridge. The lack of railings means that some parts are not for the faint-hearted.
The view from the Bosphorus Cruise.
A nice residential neighborhood next to the castle.
